The Soup Doctor

Year Completed: 2012
Media: performance, video
Site: Museum at Eldridge Street

The Soup Doctor (aka Dr. Sheldon Nova) remembers fondly tasting the Kreplach during childhood holidays. It was taboo for men to be in the kitchen, so he did not have the opportunity to watch his mother closely as she cooked when he was a boy. Despite this, he is now a passionate cook and presented the oral history of Kreplach at the Museum at Eldridge Street.

We invited visitors to join us for an afternoon of cooking and conversation as we explored the concept of what it means to be American.
